Briel Thompson, LMSW

Briel is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Board-Certified Case Manager (CCM) with over 8 years of experience in the social work profession. As a new Board Ambassador for Coalition of Black Social Workers (CBSW), a respected 501(c)(3) organization, Briel is dedicated to advancing the mission of engaging, connecting, and empowering Black social work students and professional.

Briel holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Middle Tennessee State University. She has a deep passion for social equity and empowerment. Briel has built a career rooted in advocating for all populations facing social and economic challenges. Over the years, she has worked in various settings, including local government, community mental health agencies, behavioral health insurance, acute inpatient hospitals, substance use disorder treatment programs, and community adolescent behavioral health. Where she has provided case management, crisis intervention, resource connection, mentorship, quality improvement, ethical risk management, decision-making, and therapeutic services.

As an experienced social worker, Briel specializes in case management, acute inpatient care, women’s mental health and wellness. She brings a unique skill set to the board, combining hands-on experience with a deep understanding of social work values/principles, making her an invaluable asset to Coalition of Black Social Workers.

As a new Board Ambassador for CBSW, Briel actively supports and promotes the CBSW's goals and initiatives. Her social work background brings a compassionate, person-centered approach to ethical decision-making, ensuring that the Black voices of those served are always prioritized. Briel is deeply committed to creating positive change in the local and broader communities. Her personal philosophy revolves around empowering individuals and families to overcome challenges and strive to live fulfilling quality lives. Her work has had a lasting impact on clients, patients, students, and colleagues, as she continuously strives to inspire positive social change.

As a Board Ambassador, Briel is committed to continuing to strengthen CBSW's influence and reach. She aims to expand the CBSW’s mission through building community partnerships, amplify Black voices, mentorship, networking opportunities, continued education, organizational development, and raise awareness of critical social issues that impact our communities. During her free time, Briel enjoys music, travel, playing with her dog, volunteering, and spending time with her husband, family, friends.
